A Letter from Family Owner & C.O.O. Kevin R. McCarthy
When my family purchased Bloody Point in 2011, all we knew was that we were in for a real labor of love. We had been vacationing on Daufuskie for over 25 years and jumped at the chance to be a part of restoring this beautiful part of the island, long neglected throughout an extended bankruptcy. We had our work cut out for us.
We didn’t accept that Bloody Point was all but abandoned and we have been defying expectations for the past four years. We enlisted the help of Love Golf Design, the design company of Davis Love III, to renovate and restore the golf course. The formerly overgrown and unrecognizable golf course has been returned to its former glory. We opened a full-service restaurant - The Eagle’s Nest Restaurant and Bar - in the neglected Clubhouse that hadn’t seen life in years. The old Breathe Spa was converted into a seven-bedroom inn - the Osprey Cottage - for overnight guests. We purchased a fleet of electric and gas carts for golfers and island visitors alike.
When we bought the property, access to Daufuskie Island was limited and challenging. Bloody Point had no water taxi system or even a dock for that matter. We built a 125 foot dock on the Mungen River and established a reliable water taxi service from Savannah, Georgia - connecting Daufuskie Island and Savannah more than ever before. Our marine fleet now includes four unique boats of various sizes and a staff of dedicated, experienced, and hardworking captains and crew.
We know we aren’t alone when we say we love Daufuskie Island. Today, four years since my family purchased Bloody Point, our vision remains the same as the day we bought it: to preserve a natural, secluded retreat for families, golfers, and explorers to escape and relax. Our goal is to treat you like family while you enjoy the serenity and beauty that can be found at Bloody Point Golf Club & Resort. We invite long-time Daufuskie-lovers and brand-new visitors alike to experience the pristine beaches, the old whispering oak trees, and the rich history that Daufuskie has to offer.
Come and be our guest - for a day or for a lifetime. We look forward to seeing you.
